Gratitude is not about feeling grateful for what you have it is also about being thankful for what you don’t have.

I spend Christmas alone.  I don’t do it because I want to, I do it because I have no one to spend it with.  Being alone at Christmas makes me a more generous & loving person.  It makes me more thankful for those I love and for those who love me.  I don’t want to do it forever but while I must I have to work through the pain and be thankful that I have a home at all to spend it in.

I’m grateful for the memories of the Jelly Babies at Marble Arch even though there are days when I can’t feel the wonderment I did that day.  I know that the feeling is stored in my heart and the days I can feel it I am grateful.

I’m grateful for the beautiful ponies in the field by Scadbury Park in Chislehurst.  They fuss over you in a way that only ponies can.  I smiled from the inside.

These are both peak experiences and I’m grateful to Steve Brown for introducing me to Eckhart Tolle.

Who couldn’t be grateful for Winnie the Pooh and Piglet in the Hundred Acre Wood.  I now know that a tree is unlikely to fall on me.

I’m a bossy cow and I’m full of gratitude for the friends who let me get away with precisely nothing but do it with gentleness and love.

Hard times make me grateful for the good times.

My animals make me grateful even on the days when I struggle to cope with them.  Believe me there is nothing like the sight of a guinea pig tearing round and wheeking at the top of it’s lungs to make you smile.

I’m grateful for books, for words, for music.

I’m grateful for being loved and being allowed to love.

Ultimately though I’m grateful for being able to recognize I have all this, and a ton more, to express my gratitude for.
